Process

Four stages, and you can see into every one of them.

Most of what goes wrong in a website project is not craft. It is somebody not knowing what is happening this week. The four stages are the same on every tier. What stretches is the middle two.

  1. Map

    Stage one

It starts in writing, on WhatsApp or by email, whichever you prefer. We ask what the site has to do, who has to be convinced, and what has to be true for it to have been worth it. Answer when it suits you. Then we write it down and send a fixed price and a fixed launch date.

    You

    • Send what you already have: an old site, a rough idea, a competitor you like

    Us

    • We send the price, the date, and a one page summary of what we heard
  2. Design

    Stage two

You see real pages in a browser at real sizes, not a picture of a page. That is deliberate: a design that only exists as an image hides everything that goes wrong when text is longer than expected.

    You

    • Give us your text, photos and logo in week one, or tell us to write the text
    • Send your changes in one go rather than a trickle

    Us

    • We write the copy if you asked us to
    • We design every page and show them to you in a browser
    • Your rounds of structural feedback, applied and sent back
  3. Build

    Stage three

The design becomes the real site. Plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript, so it loads fast and there is no framework to go out of date underneath you.

    You

    • Look at the preview link and say what feels wrong
    • Decide where the form should send its messages

    Us

    • We build every page and test it on real phones
    • We measure the speed and check contrast and keyboard access
    • We send you the preview link and the numbers
  4. Launch

    Stage four

It goes live on your domain, on your hosting account, in your name. Then we hand over every login and stay reachable.

    You

    • Point the domain, or let us do it with your permission
    • Look at the live site on your own phone, on your own connection

    Us

    • We put it live and check it ourselves first
    • We hand over hosting, domain and files
    • We send the final speed numbers from the live site

The date

What the launch date actually promises.

A date nobody is accountable for is a wish. Here is where the line sits.

If we are late, we pay.

Late for a reason that belongs to us means the final invoice is waived. That is the whole mechanism, and it is why we quote carefully.

If you are late, the date moves.

Content arriving three weeks after we asked moves the launch. You will hear that the day it happens, with the new date, rather than in week five.

New work is a new number.

Adding pages mid-build is fine and normal. It gets its own price and its own date before anybody starts it.

You can stop.

Walk away after any stage. You pay for what has landed and take the files. We would rather that than a project neither of us wants to open.

Process questions

What people ask about how it runs.

Who will I actually be talking to?

The person designing and building your site, in the same WhatsApp thread or email chain the whole way through. Not an account manager relaying messages, and not somebody who joined the project in week three.

Do you send the work somewhere else?

No. If that ever changed we would tell you before you signed anything, because being surprised by it later is one of the five complaints on our home page.

What if I go quiet for two weeks?

The date moves and we tell you the new one. We do not quietly keep going and then present you with something built on guesses.

How many changes do I really get?

One round on Starter, two on Growth, three on Pro. A round means you go through the whole site and send everything at once. Genuine corrections after that, a wrong phone number or a typo, are not counted or charged, because nobody wants a studio arguing over a typo.

Can I see it before it goes live?

Yes. From week three you have a preview link you can open any time and send to anyone.

What if something breaks a month after launch?

If it is something we built wrong, we fix it and there is no charge, whether or not you are on Care. If it is something new you want, that is quoted.

Stage one starts with a message.

WhatsApp or email, whichever suits you. You get a price and a date back whether or not you hire us.
